VIE Poster Session FAQs

No, at this time we are only allowing one abstract per person.

  • Keep text brief. Report only key aspects of each section (e.g., introduction, study area, methods, results, discussion). It is not advisable to display the entire text from a manuscript. Too much detail detracts from the primary message of the text.
  • Keep figures simple. Convey only one idea per figure, table, or photograph. Figures from publications, theses, or dissertations normally do not make good visuals. Too much detail detracts from the primary message of the figure.
  • Text and figures should be readable to someone standing at a distance of six feet. Adjust font and image sizes accordingly. BIG IS BEAUTIFUL and easy to read.
  • Photographs should clearly show what you want the audience to see.
  • Use appropriate blank space between words, sections, and figures.
  • Use appropriate and compatible colors for fonts, backgrounds, graphics, and matting. White backgrounds generally are best for text.
  • Simple typefaces are preferable to fancy fonts. Bold type may be effective on heading

Talk to your airline and try to get here! Then notify Pam Smythe ([email protected]).

Yes, bring it with you the convention. You may bring your poster printed on paper or fabric. You do not need to send us your poster file. You will set it up in the designated time before the poster session.

Posters in the research category are judged differently than posters in the vignette category.

Research posters are judged as follows: Background is clear and gives rationale, Methods are well-explained, Results are presented clearly and compared to other studies, Conclusion makes study's application clear. The limitations of the study should be addressed.

Vignette posters are judged as follows: Introduction clearly presents problem and gaps in the current literature, Case Presentation gives a detailed description of patient/program/intervention and states outcomes, Discussion states relevance to current practice. The subject should be a novel concept or innovation, or a unique case with educational value.

ALL posters will be judged on their appearance, organization, and readability. As a presenter, you should be prepared to briefly summarize your work to judges and session attendees. Be prepared to answer their questions with more detail. You will be expected to stand by your poster throughout the session. You can expect about 10 attendees to talk to you about your poster. Posters with QR codes are acceptable.

By presenting a poster, your registration fee to attend the National Convention is waived!

A coauthor may present your poster. It must be someone who has been involved in the research or project and is qualified to present the work! Please note: faculty are not allowed to present research on behalf of their students and residents.

If that someone is a coauthor, he or she may present on your behalf. Please note: faculty are not allowed to present research on behalf of their students and residents. You must advise Pam Smythe ([email protected]) of this change.
