Spiritual Oasis for Strengthening Faith While Practicing Healthcare

As students begin their healthcare training at Penn State and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, they encounter new experiences that consume their time, confront them with enormous pressure, and challenge them with competing world views. CMDA seeks to be a spiritual oasis amidst the storm. We facilitate connections with other students and experienced professionals to strengthen both their faith and their careers. Through mentoring, missions, networking, and faith-based healthcare teaching - students are given the tools needed to build a spiritually thriving healthcare profession.

Students, alumni, and healthcare professionals serve in a number of places inspired by Christian Community Health Fellowship, Global Health Outreach, Global Missions Health Conference, MedSend, Samaritan's Purse, and Urbana Student Missions Conference.

Our focus

Through the ministry of CMDA South Central Pennsylvania, students and professionals are encouraged to extend the love of Jesus to others throughout their educational journey and practice. Unique needs and pressures of medical students and physicians are addressed through Bible studies, mentorships, missions, networks, and peer relationships. Your partnership enables Tom Grosh IV to speak into the lives of students such as Jayde ('19) through campus fellowships: "Tom plays a vital role in leadership, continuity, and support for our Christian Medical Society [CMS]. Without Tom's help and guidance, CMS would not be able to provide its strong Christian community to the medical students at Penn State. He helps water our spiritual roots!" Ministry extends to practicing healthcare professionals. Matthew Montgomery, M.D., chair of the CMDA South Central Pennsylvania board, shares with students and colleagues what he learned through a CMDA Global Health Outreach, "The reason I work long hours and endure the stress of surgery practice is to bring glory to Jesus. I've found new meaning in life where I use my skills and abilities to serve God by serving others and pointing them to the Lord. God has blessed me and my practice beyond what I thought possible. My emptiness has been replaced with purpose and fulfillment. I serve Him out of deep gratitude for all He has done. It doesn't get much better than that." Your prayer and financial partnership, directed by the Holy Spirit, is essential to changing hearts in healthcare in South Central Pennsylvania.
