An Unexpected Choice

March 20, 2024

Host Bill Reichart and Dr. Patti Giebink engage in a conversation about her transition from working at Planned Parenthood to her current role in advocating for the protection of unborn lives. This compelling narrative of redemption intertwines with Patti's spiritual journey, which she openly shared during the discussion. Abortion is a divisive issue. How can we discuss abortion with respect and compassion? There are extremes on both sides. Is abortion a "right"? Why or why not? Why do women have abortions? When in pregnancy is abortion no longer justifiable? Does abortion reduce maternal mortality?

Dr. Patti Giebink, MD, is an OB/GYN physician who has over 30 years’ experience delivering babies here and in hospitals overseas. While working in her private practice in Sioux Falls, SD, she began working part-time performing abortions at Planned Parenthood, the only abortion clinic in South Dakota. Eventually she closed her practice to work full-time at Planned Parenthood but left one year later in September 1997. She has not performed any abortions since.

Her book, Unexpected Choice – an abortion doctor’s journey to pro-life, chronicles her career, her journey and her transformation, and gives readers insight into both sides of this divisive issue.
